Bonus! Your cheapest alternative for visiting Tigre
If you’re feeling adventurous and/or want to save some money, consider reaching Tigre by your own means, taking a free walking tour, and from there deciding how to spend the rest of the day.
Trains to Tigre depart regularly from Retiro station in downtown Buenos Aires (Mitre train line, Retiro-Tigre route). The train takes about 1 hour to reach Tigre, which is the last station. Tickets are really cheap and can be bought in the station or using Argentina’s transportation card known as SUBE.
Tigre Free Walking Tour (tip-based, Weekends only)
Even though this free walking tour presumably doesn’t include a boat ride through the Delta, it can be used as a nice introduction to your visit to Tigre. The guide will meet you at Tigre’s train station and take you to a 1.5-hour stroll, showing you the town’s main attractions while sharing local wisdom on Tigre’s history and way of life. Moreover, they will typically provide lunch recommendations and help you decide which boat tour to take if you haven’t already booked one. Bear in mind that these free tours are available only on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Most guides speak English and will be happy to accept tips.
